July 2: Sips and Seabirds with Susie Meadows – Learn how decoys help restore seabird colonies during this decoy painting event. – Join us for Sips and Seabirds. July 8: Make and Take: Making Plastic Bottle Bird Feeders. Create a birdfeeder out of common household items and watch birds from your backyard. Through this creative exploration of recycling participants will explore how to reuse single-use plastics, like a water bottle, to create a backyard bird feeder. Empty plastic drink bottles will be available or bring your won. Ages 5+
July 9: Bird Cams w/ Quinn Burkhart – Learn how live-stream cameras are an innovative tool for citizen science and seabird research. – Quinn Burkhart, the Seabird Institute’s Communications & Outreach Assistant, will discuss how live-stream cameras are an innovative tool for citizen science and seabird research. Learn about Audubon’s explore.org live cameras and opportunities for nature lovers to get involved in community-based research.
July 15: Bird Identification. Bird identification can seem daunting but join us and learn how pros identify birds by color and field marks. Learn what field markers are and use them to identify various seabird species. Ages 9+
July 16: Project Puffin w/ Steve Kress – Learn how a tiny project off Maine’s coast created big impact for seabirds worldwide. – Steve Kress, founder of Project Puffin, will present the story of how teams of young naturalists helped to restore puffins and other seabirds. The work of Project Puffin also inspired groups from around the world to help other seabirds return to their native homes.
July 22: Lights Out. Birds, especially migrating birds, depend on night travel, and things like light pollution and large skyscrapers greatly affect this migration. This program will teach the importance of keeping lights off along with other ways we can support migrating birds. Ages 8+
July 29: Awesome Adaptations of Seabirds. Seabirds are an important part of coastal ecosystems. To help them survive and thrive around the ocean, seabirds have many awesome adaptations! How do seabirds stay warm? Are they able to keep themselves dry? How do they use their beaks and feet to move around or catch prey? Through a series of hands-on activities, participants will answer these questions and explore the unique adaptations of seabirds. All ages.
July 30: Monhegan Island w/ Don Reimer – Learn about the world-renowned, migratory birding hotspot located off Maine’s coast. – Don Reimer will be discussing the amazing features of Monhegan Island, which will include birding spots, scenic views and more. This talk will also include lots of seasonal bird photos.
August 5: Tearing Paper; Making Art. Art comes in many forms and there are many ways in which to be artistic. In this class the technique of tearing paper to create a collage will be explored. This technique will be studied and then participants will be given the opportunity to create their own college using torn paper. All ages.
August 6: Seabird Art w/ Susan Bebee – Dive into this full sensory art activity, suitable for all ages! – Join Susan, a local artist, who will be at the center to assist and guide participants in a hands-on, full-sensory art activity. This activity is suitable for all ages and all supplies will be provided, including all art materials. NOTE: There is a $5 program fee for this activity.
August 12: Pinecone Bird Feeders. Give your feathered friends a tasty snack as they begin to gear up for Fall weather. Providing your backyard birds with seeds to eat is a great way to support them! Join us to create bird feeders with 3 simple materials: pinecones, sunflower butter, & bird seed! All materials will be provided. All ages. NOTE: There is a $5 program fee for this activity.
August 13: Seabird Migration w/ Don Lyons – Learn how scientists are solving the mystery of seabird migration. – Don Lyons, Director of Conservation Science for Audubon’s Seabird Institute, will provide an in-depth perspective on seabird migration.

Visitor Center
The Project Puffin Visitor Center (PPVC) is located at 311 Main Street in downtown Rockland, Maine. The center opened its doors officially on July 1, 2006.
