Puffin Palooza
June 15 - August 15
As part of our 50th anniversary celebration Puffin Palooza! brings the magic of Gulf of Maine seabirds onto the mainland for Maine’s residents and visitors. Partnering with local businesses, we’re conducting a seabird scavenger hunt throughout several Maine coastal communities, which will bring awareness to the research and conservation work that occur in the Gulf of Maine.
Tuesday Kids Science Programs

Friendly Feathers – Kids will learn how important feathers are to birds and especially seabirds that need to withstand the elements.
Wednesday Night Lecture Series
August 9 @ 5:00 PM | Project Puffin Visitor Center
Susan Beebe, a local artist, will be at the center to assist and guide participants in a hands of, full sensory art activity. This activity is suitable for all ages and all supplies will be provided, including photos of local birds. A small fee of $5/participant is required.
Birding In Bremen
August 11 @ 9:00AM | Todd Wildlife Sanctuary
With the help of a seasoned birder, learn some of the more common species around us and how to identify them. Limited pairs of extra binoculars are available, and participants will be provided with lessons on how best to use them. If you have your own please bring them. These walks are free but donations are appreciated. Please sign up so we can contact you if anything changes due to weather or other safety concerns. Limited to 15 participants. Tuesday Kids Science Programs

Migration Destination – Why do some birds migrate? Why do some birds live in the same place all year long? Kids will learn why some birds migrate and will play Migration Headache which will emphasize the importance of preserving natural areas for migration.
Wednesday Night Lecture Series
August 16 @ 5:00 PM | Project Puffin Visitor Center
Don Lyons, Director of Conservation Science for Audubon’s Seabird Institute, will provide an update on the development of wind energy in the Gulf of Maine and the efforts of the Seabird Institute to minimize impacts on Maine’s seabirds. Nesting puffins, terns, and other seabird species have been tracked in recent years to better understand the areas of the Gulf that are most important.

The Chicken or the Egg: An Exploration of Birds from Before the Big Bang! – We know people have changed over millions of years but what are the origins of birds? How did people come to know them? From dinosaurs to chickens, from squinting to binoculars, kids will explore a brief history of birds and birding.

Celeste Flahaven, the Seabird Institute’s Communications & Outreach Assistant, will discuss how live cameras are an innovative, non-invasive tool for seabird research. This presentation will include exciting footage from Audubon’s explore.org live cameras. The explore.org live cameras act as a method of community engagement and help foster citizen science initiatives for nature lovers all around the world!
Seabird Saturdays
August 26 | Pemaquid Point Lighthouse
Between the hours of 9:00am to 1:00pm, Audubon's Seabird Institute will be on site at the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. With a spotting scope and loaner optics available, park visitors can learn how to use these observation tools and how to identify the seabirds seen from the park’s rocky shore during this free program.

Visitor Center
The Project Puffin Visitor Center (PPVC) is located at 311 Main Street in downtown Rockland, Maine. The center opened its doors officially on July 1, 2006.
